The 10A and 16A Italian plugs use different pin diameters and spacing, making them mechanically incompatible. The 10A plug is used for standard household appliances and electronics, while the 16A version is reserved for higher-power equipment such as air conditioners, washing machines, and industrial appliances. Some universal Italian sockets (bipasso) accommodate both 10A and 16A plugs through a hybrid design.
