PSE Certification Categories

The DENAN Law divides electrical products into two categories. Category A (Specified Electrical Appliances – 116 items) includes power cords and cord sets, which require mandatory third-party conformity assessment by a registered certification body such as JET (Japan Electrical Safety and Environment Technology Laboratories). Category B (Non-Specified Electrical Appliances – 341 items) covers other electrical devices requiring self-declaration of conformity. These markings must be permanent and legible, typically hot-stamped or ink-printed directly onto the cord jacket.
