Japan PSE Certification Overview
The PSE (Product Safety of Electrical Appliance and Materials) mark is Japan’s mandatory safety certification for electrical products, governed by the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law (DENAN Law). Power cords imported into Japan must carry the PSE mark to demonstrate compliance with Japanese safety standards. Zhejiang Jinting Nuclear Cable Co., Ltd. manufactures PSE-certified power cords for the Japanese market, meeting all JIS C 8303 requirements.
Japanese Plug Types and Standards
| Parameter | Type A (JIS C 8303) | Type B (JIS C 8303) |
|---|---|---|
| Voltage | 125V AC | 125V AC |
| Current | 15A maximum | 15A maximum |
| Pins | 2 flat parallel pins | 2 flat parallel + round ground |
| Polarity | Non-polarized | Polarized with ground |
| Grounding | No ground | Grounded (3-pin) |
PSE Certification Categories
The DENAN Law divides electrical products into two categories. Category A (Specified Electrical Appliances – 116 items) includes power cords and cord sets, which require mandatory third-party conformity assessment by a registered certification body such as JET (Japan Electrical Safety and Environment Technology Laboratories). Category B (Non-Specified Electrical Appliances – 341 items) covers other electrical devices requiring self-declaration of conformity. Our PSE-certified power cords fall under Category A with full JET approval.
Cable Requirements for Japanese Market
PSE-certified power cords must use JIS-compliant cables. Common cable types include VCTF (vinyl cabtyre cord) for general purpose flexible cords, VCTFK (vinyl insulated flat cord) for light-duty indoor applications, and rubber-insulated flexible cords (equivalent to H05RN-F) for industrial and outdoor use. The conductor cross-sections typically match the Japanese domestic standard: 0.75mm² for up to 7A, 1.25mm² for up to 12A, and 2.0mm² for up to 15A.
Key PSE Marking Requirements
PSE-certified power cords must display the diamond-shaped PSE mark for Category A products on the cord itself or its packaging. The marking must include the PSE logo in a diamond shape (for Specified Electrical Appliances), the name of the registered certification body, the manufacturer or importer’s name, and the rated voltage and current. These markings must be permanent and legible, typically hot-stamped or ink-printed directly onto the cord jacket.
Common IEC Configurations for Japan
PSE power cords from Zhejiang Jinting Nuclear Cable Co., Ltd. are available in various configurations. The 2-pin plug to IEC C7 is rated 7A 125V for small appliances. The 2-pin plug to IEC C13 is rated 12A 125V for computer equipment and general appliances. The 3-pin plug to IEC C5 is rated 7A 125V for laptop power adapters. The 3-pin plug to IEC C15 is rated 15A 125V for high-temperature applications. Each configuration can be customized with different cable lengths and jacket colors to meet customer specifications.
Manufacturing and Quality Control
Our PSE-certified power cords are manufactured following strict quality control procedures. Each production batch undergoes conductor resistance testing per JIS C 3301, insulation resistance and dielectric withstand testing, plug blade pull-out force testing, temperature rise testing under rated load, cord flexibility and bending endurance testing, and marking durability verification. These rigorous procedures ensure consistent quality that meets Japanese market expectations.
Importing to Japan: Key Considerations
When importing power cords into Japan, importers must register as an Importer of Electrical Appliances and Materials under the DENAN Law. The importer bears responsibility for ensuring PSE compliance, including verifying manufacturer’s test reports, maintaining quality control records, and affixing the PSE mark with their business name before placing products on the Japanese market. Zhejiang Jinting Nuclear Cable Co., Ltd. provides comprehensive documentation packages including JET test reports and certificates to support our customers’ import compliance efforts.
Applications in Japanese Market
Our PSE power cords serve diverse Japanese market segments including consumer electronics manufacturers, computer and IT equipment suppliers, household appliance producers, medical device manufacturers, laboratory and testing equipment providers, and office automation equipment companies. We maintain flexible production capabilities to accommodate both large-volume OEM contracts and specialized small-lot requirements for the Japanese market.
